Liputan Kes Liwat Anwar (1 & 2 Julai 2008)

'Musa, Gani di Bukit Aman, sorok info saya ditumbuk Rahim'

Malaysiakini : Jul 1, 08 5:37pm

13. Ini bukanlah kali pertama dakwaan mengenai pemalsuan bukti dibuat berkaitan Tan Sri Gani Patail. Saya dimaklumkan bahawa dalam keputusan Mahkamah Persekutuan Zainur bin Zakaria v Public Prosecutor [2001] 3 MLJ, Steve Shim, Hakim Besar, dalam penghakiman beliau menyatakan bahawa "... was he not justified, on a prima facie basis, in complaining that Tan Sri Gani Patail’s conduct at the meeting on 2.10.1998 was an attempt to get Nalla to fabricate evidence in order to perfect charges against him for other alleged sexual offences?"

Perkataan “he” dan “him” dalam ayat di atas merujuk kepada diri saya.

Saiful’s fiancee says they’ll weather the storm

PETALING JAYA: Janna Syariza, the fiancee of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, has declared that she will stand by her man through the “monstrous battle that is looming ahead”.
“I will stand by his side. Our engagement photos being posted and circulated on blogs is just the tip of the iceberg.

“The photos are supposed to be our privately cherished memories and now they are being used by irresponsible parties to fuel speculation,” she said in her blog, A Step in My Pink Mary Janes (jannamohdzaki.blogspot. com).

“We will weather the storm. Insyallah, we will come through it all right, no matter how long it takes and justice will prevail.

“Please pray justice prevails. I wish to thank all those who have shown concern and sympathy.”

In contrast, she said there were also those waiting to squeeze out information and juicy gossip, and who did not care about their feelings.

Her blog’s tagline states: “Shoes are my passion, love is the essence and food is an obsession. This is my life ... and everything else in between.”

She describes herself as over 155cm in height, with hair and eye colour that “changes every two months”, and that she loves the gym more for “the glorious showers than the cardio machines.”

Mohd Saiful, 23, a former aide of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, alleged in a police report made on Saturday that he was sodomised by Anwar at a condominium in Damansara last Thursday.

On Monday, Anwar filed a suit against Mohd Saiful for defamation and allegedly lodging a malicious false report against him.

Dr M not surprised by sodomy allegation

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he was not surprised over the recent sodomy allegation against his former deputy Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I am not surprised at all. He is saying it is a fabrication but he said the same thing last time,” he said when asked to comment on the new allegation.

The allegation came about after a 23-year-old former aide of Anwar lodged a police report on Saturday alleging sodomy. The de facto leader of PKR in turn filed a suit against the aide claiming defamation and malicious falsehood.

Anwar has vehemently denied the accusations and said it was a political conspiracy against him given his plans to return to Parliament.

Anwar alleged that the Government was out to get him, just when he was about to announce where he would be contesting in a by-election. The Government has denied his allegation.

“He will have lots of stories. There is always conspiracy as far as he is concerned. I’m not surprised at all,” Dr Mahathir said in an interview.

Anwar had sought refuge in the Turkish embassy on Sunday claiming his life was in danger and there were assassination plots on him.

He left the embassy on Monday evening after receiving assurance from the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister that his safety would be guaranteed.

Dr Mahathir also dismissed the notion that Anwar could topple the Government.
“Malaysia is one country where prime ministers can walk about the streets safely and not get shot at.

“When I go shopping, I don’t feel threatened at all. My bodyguards, if there are, actually stay away from me.

“When people approach me, there is no problem at all. I am not worried. We are actually a very peaceful country,” he added.

Dr Mahathir also expressed disappointment over the country’s current situation.

Ezam not shocked by allegations against Anwar
By DHARMENDER SINGH

SHAH ALAM: Former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor says he is not shocked over the fresh allegations of sodomy against the party’s de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Ezam said he did not want to state his reasons for not being surprised as it would, otherwise, affect not only Anwar but also the alleged victim and his family.
“I will not touch on it now because it involves police investigations and the pride of the accuser and his family,” he told reporters after lodging a report at the state Anti-Corruption Agency’s office here yesterday.

He claimed that there was corruption and misuse of power within the Selangor Mentri Besar’s office over the soliciting of funds for the 100 days-in-office celebrations.
He said he had defended Anwar over the same allegations back in 1998 on the basis that he and his family were being degraded.

However, he stressed that Anwar should stop claiming that the Federal Government was behind the allegations.

Ezam said Anwar should stop pointing at a conspiracy by the government based on photographs showing the alleged victim with some senior government officials as it was degrading to the Umno leaders involved too.

He said he had discussed the fresh allegations against Anwar with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and other Umno leaders who had all denied any involvement.

“Anwar should not make assumptions of a conspiracy because it is also not logical for the government to use the same method against the same man twice just to stop him from contesting for a parliamentary seat,” he added.

Anwar asked to be admitted, says embassy

KUALA LUMPUR: The Turkish Embassy said it never invited former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take refuge at the embassy.

A statement issued by the embassy on Monday said that Anwar went to the Turkish Embassy on Sunday morning and asked to be admitted for a temporary period citing personal security concerns.

He wanted to stay till “certain issues regarding his personal safety were addressed”.

“His wish was granted on humanitarian grounds,” the statement said.

“At no time and under no circumstances an invitation to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take refuge at the embassy was extended,” it said.

Anwar left the embassy on his own accord at 6.45pm on Monday, the statement added.

Protest letter to US Embassy

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will issue a protest letter to the US Embassy over the country’s statement on investigations into Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s case and said Washington should “get its facts right”.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he had instructed the Foreign Ministry to send the protest letter to the US Embassy.

“This is a statement which I perceive as an attempt to meddle in our administration. We have our own Government, our own laws and our own enforcement,” he told a press conference at Parliament House here yesterday after meeting up with PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

On Monday, foreign wires reported US State Department spokesman Tom Casey as saying the United States would oppose any politically motivated investigation or prosecution of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The main point for us is that the rule of law needs to stand above politics,” Casey was quoted as saying in the statement, adding that the department “hoped there would not be a pattern” because Anwar had faced similar charges back in 1998.”
Abdullah said Malaysia knew how to ensure the law was implemented fairly and that nobody would be ill-treated or threatened.

He said the statement seemed to indicate that the country was prejudiced against the Malaysian Government and the enforcement of its laws.

He added that it was inappropriate for a country, which is one of Malaysia’s largest trading partners, to issue such a statement.

On PKR’s Bandar Baru-Kulim MP Zulkifli Nordin saying that the party had received intelligence from a neighbouring country of threats against Anwar, Abdullah said he should lodge a police report.

“Don’t merely speculate. I hope there won’t be anybody who will draw his own conclusion and fling accusations on this matter,” he said.

“Let the probe continue,” he said.

At another press conference, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Anwar’s case “was never politically motivated.”

“Washington had better get its facts right,” he said.

Family cancels press conference

PETALING JAYA: An anticipated press conference, supposed to be held by Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s family, was called off about an hour before it was scheduled to take place.

Reporters received an SMS earlier yesterday morning, stating that family members would be holding the press conference at a house in Bandar Utama at 2pm.

However, another SMS was then sent out informing reporters it was cancelled.
Nevertheless, the media turned up at the house where it is learnt Mohd Saiful stayed.
An uncle of Mohd Saiful later turned up and informed them the press conference was off.

Mohd Saiful had accused PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of sodomy.

“The press conference has been cancelled at the last minute. We are waiting for the green light to be given by the family,” said the uncle, who wanted to be known as Uncle Pat.

“We will have a press conference in the soonest possible time.”

Asked whether he had spoken to Mohd Saiful, he said he had yet to do so.
He added that the family would be seeking legal advice.

“My last answer is, it is still under investigation by the police. They are more well-versed.”

Saiful’s medical report sent to police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have received the medical report of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan who alleged that PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had sodomised him.
It was learnt the hospital authorities had completed their examination and forwarded the report to the police to study before they decide on their next course of action.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar confirmed that police received the report from the hospital yesterday.

Mohd Saiful, 23, a former aide of Anwar, had lodged a police report alleging Anwar had sodomised him at a condominium in Damansara last Thursday.

Police, acting on the report, started a full-scale probe with top investigators, including forensics experts, visiting the alleged crime scene.

In Ipoh, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad said he is confident the specialists would report accurately the findings of the medical examination of Mohd Saiful.

Akuan pembabitan pejabat Najib
Abdul Rahim Sabri |

Malaysiakini : Jul 1, 08 11:55pm

Sewaktu Anwar tiba, kira-kira jam 10 malam, mereka beramai-ramai berdiri bersama ribuan penyokong menyanyikan lagu Negaraku.

Big turnout at stadium

By DHARMENDER SINGH and WANI MUTHIAH

SHAH ALAM: A large crowd gathered at Stadium Melawati here last night for a rally organised by PKR following new allegations of sodomy against its de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The rally became a platform to criticise the Barisan Nasional government and the policies of the present administration.

The crowd started gathering as early as 7.30pm but most of the PKR top leaders gathered in the makeshift platform at about 9pm inside the stadium.

About an hour later Anwar walked in. In his speech later, Anwar said he would not sit quietly and allow a repeat of what happened in 1998.

“We will fight,” he said.

“When we (Pakatan Rakyat) take over the country, the first thing we will do is bring down the price of fuel,” he said.

Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul, who moderated the evening’s event, said the “sound of war drums” had begun reverberating from Pakatan Rakyat.

Other speakers who spoke before Anwar included PKR vice presidents Azmin Ali and R. Sivarasa.

ACA starts probe into Anwar allegation
By MAZWIN NIK ANIS

PUTRAJAYA: The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) has started full-scale investigations into the police report lodged by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alleging abuse of power by Tan Sri Musa Hassan and Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.

The agency's Director of Investigations Datuk Shukri Abdull is leading the investigations.

ACA director-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan said there was no need to set up a special taskforce to investigate the case despite it being a high profile one.
He added that he was confident his officers would do a "good, efficient and responsible job investigating Anwar's claims."

Ahmad Said said that apart from recording statements from the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General, it was "only right and necessary" for the agency to meet and question the PKR adviser as he was the one making the accusation.

He was speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ACA and the Customs department on Wednesday for the agency to look into Customs' procedures and systems to avoid loopholes and the possibility of corrupt practices.

Also present was Customs director-general Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid.
On Tuesday, Anwar lodged a police report in Shah Alam, alleging abuse of power by Musa and Gani regarding the infamous "black eye" incident in 1998.

Since the latest sodomy report against him by Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Anwar and his camp have maintained that the fresh allegation is an attempt to divert attention from the fact that he has evidence to prove that Gani and Musa fabricated evidence against him 10 years ago.

Ahmad Said said the ACA had been asked to investigate the matter because power abuse came under the purview of the agency and to ensure investigations were "not biased".

Suspend A-G and IGP, says Balik Pulau MP
By SHAHANAAZ HABIB

KUALA LUMPUR: Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan should be suspended from their posts pending investigations into the role they played in allegedly trying to cover up the assault on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim Ibrahim in 1998, Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusuf said.
Yusmadi, who is from PKR, said said the duo's suspension was important, as it would have a bearing on the “conduct of investigations” in the latest police report lodged against Anwar.

“The issue at stake is evidence implicating the high offices of prosecution and the police. So how can Anwar have strong belief that his rights would be well protected by someone who has a direct interest in the case,” he said at the Parliament lobby.
Yusmadi, a lawyer, said as the case involved the dignity and integrity of the country, an independent person should be appointed to investigate.

“This police report is not related to a fresh case but to old cases,” he added.
Yusmadi said PKR appreciated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's willingness to meet Anwar’s wife Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Tuesday and his assurance on Anwar's safety.

He said PKR did not make an official request for police protection for Anwar as it was of national interest and should have been offered without asking.
“So, now we are relying on our volunteers,” he said.

He also said that when Anwar went to the Turkish Ambassador’s residence on Sunday to seek refuge, it was a party decision for him to do so.

“He wanted to stay back and fight but we convinced him to go so that he can face the allegations in a prepared manner. We were afraid something bad would happen to him,'' he added.

Isu pertemuan sulit dengan Saiful, penafian Najib wujudkan kesangsian - AMK

Nyza Ayob

Wed | Jul 02, 08 | 3:12:47 pm MYT
