GEORGE TOWN: Controversial politician Lim Boo Chang has officially joined Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), together with 350 of his supporters.
Lim, who crossed over from Gerakan to the MCA eight years ago, said their applications had been accepted by party de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, he said: “The decision to join PKR was made after careful evaluation of Malaysia’s present political scenario and a deeper understanding of PKR’s objectives.” Lim, 53, who was Kampung Lembah Ria MCA branch chairman and Bukit Gelugor division committee member, faxed his resignation letter to MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting on April 4.
Right after the 1999 polls, Lim and Gerakan assemblyman Lim Chien Aun created an uproar when they crossed over to the MCA, depriving Gerakan of two state seats.
Lim was not fielded in the recent general election. He last contested in 2004 in Bukit Gelugor, but lost.
