ALOR STAR: Kedah Pas is running the state government along instructions from the party leadership, Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said. He said the state government had never agreed to carry out policies that were practised in other states under the Pakatan Rakyat rule.
"I am aware that there was supposed to be conformity among the opposition-run states as the matter was brought up by leaders of the opposition parties after the March 8 general election.
"However, there was no entity or secretariat formed to coordinate the matter and I've never been informed of one.
"So, for the past three months, we have been running the state based on the advice and instructions of our party leaders in Kuala Lumpur," he said when asked if the state government was run based on a development blueprint meted out to all opposition-run states as agreed by the loose Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition comprising Pas, the DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
Azizan said there was also no meeting on the proposed secretariat between him and his counterparts from Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kelantan.
"I don't think there is a secretariat. Maybe, the matter was just a wish announced by certain quarters. We never knew how things would be, but once we took charge, we realised what really needed to be done," he said.
On April 1, PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang met at the office of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss forming Pakatan Rakyat.
They also reached an understanding that all state governments under their control would conduct policies in accordance with those of Pakatan Rakyat.
A joint secretariat was also formed to develop and strengthen the structure and framework of Pakatan Rakyat. - NST
